You want to play with one person and nobody else

Othello game in progress on Playboard mobile

Online gaming usually means matchmaking: you queue, you get paired with a stranger, you play. A private room is different. You choose who you play with. Create a room, get a link, send it to your friend. The link is the invitation — nobody else has it, nobody else joins.

There is no password to set, no room code to read out, no account to create. Your friend clicks the link and they are in the room with you. Everyone else is out.

You want to play more than one game in the same session

A session does not have to end after the first match. After a game finishes, the lobby reappears for both of you. Suggest another game — Chess after Connect Four, Backgammon after Checkers — and your friend accepts. A new match starts immediately in the same room.

The chat history stays, the link stays the same, and neither of you has to do anything to keep the session going. One room is enough for an hour of back-and-forth play.

The room stays open if the connection drops

Network problems happen. If your friend loses connection mid-game, they rejoin with the same link. The room is still there, the game state is saved, and they re-enter exactly where they left off. No new room, no re-coordination.

This also means you can return to the same session later. If you both need to step away before a match is finished, the room stays open. Come back with the same link and the game is still waiting. The private link is your room's identifier for the whole session — as long as you both have it, the room is accessible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the room really private?

Yes. Your room link is unique and not listed anywhere public. Only people you share it with can join.

Do I need an account to make a room?

No. Click Create Room on any game page and share the link. No registration, no email.

Can we switch games without starting a new room?

Yes. After a match the lobby reappears. Suggest a different game, your friend accepts, and a new match starts in the same room.

What if my friend loses connection?

They rejoin with the same link. The room stays open and the game resumes.

How many players can join?

Playrooms are designed for two players head-to-head. All 8 games on Playboard are 1-on-1.
