Playing With Friends (Playrooms)
What is a Playroom?
A Playroom is a private online game room where you and a friend play 1v1. Each Playroom has a unique link — share it and your friend can join instantly, no account needed.
How do I play a board game with friends?
Pick any multiplayer game (Chess, Checkers, Othello, Backgammon, Gin Rummy, Battleship, Connect Four, or Dots and Boxes), tap Create Playroom, copy the link, and send it to your friend. Both players ready up and the match begins. No downloads. No sign-up.
Can I create a private game room for friends?
Yes. Playrooms are private by default. Only people with your Playroom link can join your game.
Do my friends need an account to join?
No. Your friends can join your Playroom and start playing instantly in their browser.
Why do we both need to "Ready Up" before playing?
Both players confirm they are ready so the match starts at the same time. If someone refreshes or leaves, readiness resets so you can restart together cleanly.
Quick Match (Find Someone to Play With)
What is Quick Match?
Quick Match pairs you with a random opponent who wants to play the same game. It's the fastest way to play without needing a friend available.
How does Quick Match work?
Select Quick Match on any multiplayer game. Playboard.gg searches for another player for the same game. When a match is found, you're placed in a Playroom together, both ready up, and the game begins. If no one is available yet, you'll wait until another player joins.
Can I use Quick Match if I don't have friends online?
Yes. Quick Match is perfect when you want a live opponent but don't have a friend available. You can also play against the bot at any time without waiting.
Can I leave Quick Match while waiting?
Yes. You can cancel and return to the game screen at any time.
Solo Play & Bot Mode
Can I start playing alone and let a friend join later?
Yes. Create a Playroom and share the link whenever your friend is ready. You can also switch between solo (bot) and multiplayer from the game screen.
Can I play without chat or voice?
Yes. Playboard.gg has no in-game chat or voice. You can focus entirely on the game.
Can I play against a bot / computer?
Yes. Every multiplayer game has a Play Solo option where you play against the computer. The bot plays a reasonable game and is a good way to practice before playing friends.
Fair Play & Game Rules
Are games fair when playing with friends?
Yes. All moves are validated server-side. Illegal moves are rejected, so neither player can cheat.
What happens if my opponent disconnects?
If your opponent disconnects during a match, a short forfeit countdown begins. If they don't reconnect in time, you are awarded the win. If you disconnect, rejoin quickly using the same link to avoid forfeiting.
Progress & Achievements
Is my game history saved?
Match results are tracked in your current browser session. Long-term accounts with cross-device history are planned for a future update.
Are there achievements?
Yes. Playboard.gg awards achievements for milestones like your first win, first game played, and game-specific challenges. Achievements are stored in your browser and shown as a notification when you unlock them.
Troubleshooting
What if my friend can't join my Playroom?
Check that the link is correct, both players are on a modern browser, and the Playroom hasn't expired. If the room expired, create a new one and share the fresh link.
What if the game board won't load?
Refresh the page or use the Reconnect button. If the Playroom has expired, create a new one and invite your friend again.

Do I need to download anything?

Will more games be added?
