Most online board game platforms treat chat as an afterthought — a separate panel you minimize, or a Discord channel open in another tab. Playboard puts text chat directly inside the Playroom, visible next to the board at all times.
Type a message mid-game and your friend sees it immediately without either of you leaving the game. The chat is there for the trash talk, the "wait, was that legal?" questions, and the rematch request at the end.
Running alongside a voice call
Playboard chat is useful even when you are already on a voice call. Use it for anything that works better in text — pasting a link, sending a reaction, keeping score across a series. The game, the board, and the chat are all in one window. Your voice call runs separately and nothing competes for screen space.
Chat history stays across multiple games
Chat doesn't reset when you switch games. After a match ends and the lobby reappears, the full conversation is still there. Scores, reactions, rematch proposals — everything stays visible as context for what comes next.
This matters when you play more than one game in a session. You don't lose the thread when you move from Checkers to Chess to Backgammon. The chat holds the whole evening together, and picking up where you left off takes one message. There's nothing to configure — chat is on by default from the moment both players join.
